When my friend Lori Wells, manager of Trailblazer Pet Supply, called and asked if I would photograph the annual Soggy Dog Day, sponsored by Trailblazer's and the Chico Area Recreation and Park District (CARD), I jumped at the chance. I photographed it in 2015, but was out of town in 2016 and was just itching to photograph some wet pooches and their families.
This event is so much fun –– seriously, is there anything more joyful than dogs diving into a pool of water to round up some tennis balls? I think not! Here's how it works--you sign up and and pay the fee for one of seven 30-minute time slots through CARD, bring your pooch to Shapiro Pool and splash the afternoon away. I admit, I was a bit (OK, a lot!) worried about the weather last year. I wanted the dogs to get wet IN the pool and I wanted to minimize my own level of wetness outside of it. Miracles do happen, and it was even a bit sunny by the time the first pups arrived. Oh, and there are other fun activities to go along with the splashing--each puppy participant gets a goodie bag and there are health and wellness booths and even canine competitions. So. Much. Fun.
Oh, and GREAT NEWS - all the proceeds from the event are dedicated to a proposed new dog park in Chico!
Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 3 for the fifth annual Soggy Dog Day. Register online through CARD.
